Hunter Education

New Mexico law requires all minors to have successfully completed a Hunter Education Course before they can apply for a hunting license. Additionally groups such as 4H require Hunter Ed Certificates as a prerequisite and some ranges require it for minors. New Mexico Hunter Ed is recognized by all states. Ranges

The closest public range is in Las Vegas. Use is controlled by the Chief of Police's office. Call 505-425-7504 for details.

The NRA Whittington Center in Raton is a world class facility. It is about a two hour drive but the annual membership rate is money well spent.

4H Shooting Sports

4H Shooting Sports is well established in Mora. They have top-notch coaching and last year came home with a fine selection of medals and ribbons. Click on picture for a larger version so you can count them.

Mora Youth Hunter Education Club

The new kid on the block. Mora YHEC just got their Incorporation papers on Nov. 19, 2010 and applied for NRA affiliation the same day. The purpose is to prepare our members to enter the statewide YHEC competition, to promote safety and good sportsmanship for young hunters and to expose them to other shooting sports and outdoor activities. Black Powder

There are several rendezvous held in New Mexico annually. The closest is at Raton in June.

The Single Action Shooting Society is headquartered in Edgewood and the SASS national championship is held there in June.
